Best insight or aha! moment
I’m a fairly inexperienced blogger, at least according to my definition of the concept. This site only just celebrated its second birthday (complete with ceremonial re-purchasing of the domain name) and before that, I’d dabbled in LiveJournal but never managed to commit. For that reason, I occasionally spend time wondering how much of my personal life should be recorded online and where my boundaries lie.
Doing this challenge, I’ve shared more about myself than in regular blog posts. I’ve talked about relationships and my modelling work and while it makes me cringe a little, I think I could get used to being more open . I’m aware though, of the gap that always must remain between what I talk about here and my personal, non-online journal. This is one of those times where I preserve that gap.
Earlier this year, I started writing down funny or wise things people had said, or little realisations I’d come to. It’s become a document full of little ah-ha! moments, for reading in times when I need to re-adjust my thinking. It’s too personal to share here, but I couldn’t think of another example that fit with the prompt as well as this one. So, I’m sort of ducking out, but there were lots of aha! moments in 2009. You’ll just have to take my word for it.
Best social web moment
2009 was The Year of Twitter. I got an account and there was much tweeting.

One of the fun things about Twitter is getting a peek at the thoughts of famous people. Not every celebrity on Twitter writes their own updates, but some do. I follow Stephen Fry and alone, he’s worth the effort of joining up.
But my best social web moment was when Yoko Ono answered the question I asked her. I think I’d had an account for about a week at this time and it cemented my devotion to the site. Where else but Twitter could something like this have happened?
I asked her – “Yoko-san, what sort of things do you like doing by yourself best, instead of with other people?”
She answered, “Daydreaming”.
Yeah, she’s like, one of my closest friends now.
Best stationery
Like Gwen Bell, I’ve got lots of ye olde paper stationery that needs writing on. I’ve got everything from fancy handmade, cherry-blossom printed paper and envelopes (my favourite) from a Japanese friend to leftover Mickey Mouse notepaper from Grade 6.
I’m planning on writing more letters to friends – thank you notes too, as inspired by Gwen. I’m currently accepting any other suggestions for using up my supplies, so if you’ve got any fun ideas, let me know.
Best laugh
This year, I discovered My Life Is Average (MLIA). The novelty has worn off a little since the format was hijacked by dubious claims and lovers of Harry Potter, but I remember how hard I laughed the first time I read it. And laughed again while sharing it with others.
I think this was the one that made me laugh hardest:
“Today, I decided to tan on the balcony. I took my top off and my neighbor came out and saw me. He’s a guy. So am I. We greeted each other. MyLifeIsAverage.”
